Intro

Italven has been crafting luxury skins for half a century to bring the most exotic leathers to the fashion industry.

The farm

Have you ever wondered where luxury begins?

The farm

The journey of our premium crocodile skins starts thousands of kms away in Durban, South Africa. This is where our certified farm Kelmar Trading, was born in 2016 out of our deep need for transparency and sustainability.

The farm

Having our own farm allows us to have complete control over:

Traceability
Owning the entire supply chain allows us to collect detailed data on our product and gives us full visibility over each skin and its impact.
Animal wellfair
Respect for animal life is at the core of our responsibility.
We work with certified farms and are members of ICFA, following global standards for the health and safety of crocodilians.
Each skin is accompanied by CITES certification and complies with species protection principles, ensuring responsible sourcing and ethical supply chains.
Quality
Quality is born from the integration of technical rigor and artisanal culture.
All skins are REACH-compliant tested and undergo controls at every stage of production, certified under ISO 9001.
We invest in sustainable innovation to deliver a product that is rare, safe, and excellent. Always in harmony with nature.
The breeds

At Kelmar Trading we produce crocodile skins from the prestigious Crocodylus Niloticus breed.

The process

Once we receive our certified leathers we start the process to turn a raw skin into a luxury leather in our factory in Italy.

The process

The skins go through a 6 step process handed down through generations.

Assessment
Upon receiving the skins in our factory we do an in-depth assessment to make sure all skins meet our quality standards.
Fleshing
Excess tissue is carefully removed to reveal the natural surface of the leather and prepare it for tanning.
Tanning
Through a vegetable and metal-free process, the hides are stabilized and preserved while enhancing their natural strength.
Drying
The skins are slowly air-dried under controlled conditions to guarantee durability and uniformity.
Dyeing
Each hide is hand-dyed with precision formulas, ensuring depth of color and the uniqueness of every piece.
Finishing
The leather is refined through artisanal techniques that enhance its shine, depth, and softness, giving each piece its distinctive character.

Life Cycle Assessment Report (LCA)
Italven was the first tannery to introduce vegetable tanning into the world of exotic leathers. Our LCA proves that metal-free crocodile leather reduces environmental impact by 45% compared to chrome-tanned alligator. The study allowed us to identify critical phases, optimize processes, and communicate our sustainability journey with full transparency.
